As a Thiem fan this win feels so good. I don’t even remember how long its been since I last saw him in a tournament’s quarterfinals but this quarters is special, after so many first round loses this win against RBA is gonna take his confidence up a few notches. Hopefully this encourages him to try to get back his old form. Lets go Domi!!
RBA is such a tough opponent – precise, surgical, consistent. Great to see Dominic hitting his stride, he has an exciting game and this was a huge confidence-building win for him.

For me, that win was the break-through for Thiem. I watched most of his matches since the comeback and in everyone you could see the weight on his shoulders, all his game simply felt fragile. From middle of the first set against bautista, he somehow freed himself, moving better, hitted through the court, returning deep and heavy and errors where rather the exception than the feared most likely outcome of a rally(especially on the forehand). You really could already after the first set see, that he believes again in himself, even after the second set there was no doubt that the third will be a good one. Old Thiem is back, time to get that version in form!

Backhand was perfect today, and the forehand was ok, but every match his forehand would be better and better. And RBA isn’t an easy oppnent, Djokovic made his experience early 2019season.
After 7 first round losses in the first part of clay court season, I had no expect to Thiem in the next months and then he beats an top-20-player in the Round of 16.
Step by step (100 times) and he’s back in the top10 or top5.
