Fritz came a long way
I remember a few years ago during a practice session with Nadal in Indian Wells or Miami,
Fritz was getting destroyed by Nadal powerful groundstrokes
he was so insecure he lashed out at a fan that kept cheering for Nadal, “this is not a match!”

and now here he is
Indian Wells Champion, Top 10, defeated Nadal twice in 2022, and just made the World Tour Finals SF

Fritz definitely a much more mature player now. He knows how to control the pace and hold on his nerve much better nowadays.

Wow… the FAA and Fritz match had some crazy good rallies. They are both really satisfying players to watch.

The most aces Rafa has EVER served in a hard court match. Speaks to both the speed of the court, and the quality of his serve. It was almost impossible to try and gain match fitness AND win the matches, vs top 8 players, but this win will no doubt help his confidence. Still expecting a big 2023 from him, IF he stays healthy 🔥

I think today confirmed match-ups are vital in tennis. Rafa started the tournament against, in my opinion, the best servers of all 8 players (he wasn’t able to handle Fritz and Felix), then little by little he found a bit of form, but it was kinda late. I think with the serve from today (16 aces, OMG), he could’ve been far more competitive from the beginning… Cause this is what matters MOST indoors: no, it’s not about “skills” or “technique”, it’s about who hits the ball stronger and flatter. Anyway, Rafa had an outstanding season and it deserved to be ended with a win, not with a losing streak. No matter how much he’ll keep playing in the future, may he play injury free and with great enjoyment for this sport, without forcing his body to extreme pain. Life after tennis matters most. 🤭 #vamos

Never realized until Jim Courier brought it up during the match how predictable Felix’s second serve is. He needs to work on adding variety to that shot in the off season.

Good to see Nadal play well on this fast indoor surface. The type of court he never did particularly well on even back in his heydays. With his unorthodox style, like Alcaraz, it’s always great to see him play, winning or losing.

Where are now the doubters, who said that Taylor will not win a single match, nor be in the semis? Well, I think his results (so far) spoke for themselves. Let’s go Taylor!🔥

Fritz is playing some crazy tennis of late. Now don’t underestimate Felix and I think Fritz got wrongfooted for his own good because that is what made Felix lose concentration and hit a faulty shot to hand Fritz 4-2 in 3rd set.
But Fritz is on a roll of late.Well deserved

Congrats Taylor Fritz!! IF Fritz defeats Djokovic in the semis, I think he can win the tournament. But he has a tall order to do so. One advantage he has is that he prefers this faster hard court and it favors him slightly over Djokovic, who prefers a slower paced hard court. A tournament win can set up big things for Fritz next year such as cracking the top 5 or winning a Slam.

Felix, analyze and rehearse all the spots. Analyze. Do the math. Figure out where and when to use the low percentage and high percentage shots. Math. That’s the only thing missing.

FAA hit Taylor with the VAMOS at the end of the second set and then went downhill. Great two matches though

Rafa’s serve, forehand and hand skills were on full display. So fun to see. And his backhand overhead smashes are simply amazing.

I feel for Auger Alliaseme, he is a fighter. I just hope he wins many more tournaments in the future.

Despite Nadal getting older, he just has so much natural and embedded talent through all his formative years that he always pulls off incredible shots when he needs too.

I remember Fritz played Roger on a grass and fought like a young David against Goliath. That kid gonna go far – I thought. It came true now 😊

Рафа молодец, что не опустил руки. Завершил, как говорится, громко хлопнув дверью..💪

I think a problem with this format that I actually love so much, is that the last game of the semifinals can be totally useless, meaning that the player who leads 2-0 in the group standings as absolutely no motivation to win, since he is already in the semifinals anyway. The player would rather make sure to not push his body and keep it fresh for the semifinals match. Even I would do the same and simply play along at 60-70% so its not too obvious but to not risk anything from injuries, muscle soreness etc. Nadal on the other hand had enough motivation, since he is playing for his honor and respect, since getting 0-3 destroyed would be pretty humuliating.

When FAA won 3 titles in a row, the hype about him was huge. He was among the favorite to win Paris and Turin. Everybody seems to have forgotten it now… Great from Fritz, he’s peaking this year. Nadal is still good enough to kick some top 5 butts.
