It’s awful to see Thiem still struggling with injury. I felt the same way about Delpo before his retirement.
I feel awful for Thiem. He was my favorite of the “next gen” before his first injury, but if he doesn’t find his game soon he’s going to need wild cards to enter the main draw of tournaments, and I hate to see a former GS champion having to toil away in ITF and Challenger events.
It’s getting worse for Thiem. He lost to Garin who is another guy who is struggling terribly.
Thiem’s story is either going to end up as one of the greatest redemption arcs of all time, or plagued as one of the biggest what ifs.
It is noted that the clay of Santiago is more than 1000 meters high, it is a very fast clay
With Garin very close to dropping outside of the top 100 and Thiem struggling to return to winning form, it’s tough to choose a favourite I would like to see win. Well done to Cristian for pulling through nicely – but I am hoping Thiem can still come back.
At first like many people I thought thiem was just taking time getting back into the intensity of matches after injury, this seems a lot more psychological than anything , I feel a deep run into one of the slams or masters 1000s may boost his confidence but who knows
Look at all the losers saying Thiem is down. The guy just isn’t at his best, modern tennis is deep, he will be fine, he will keep playing and working and he will get wins and eventually catch a string of momentum
Hate to see Jarry and Varillas playing in the first round considering both are playing great recently
For different reasons and at different stages of their careers but both Thiem and Fognini are done
Happy for Jarry and Garin but sad for Thiem
Crazy to think fognini was once one of the fastest guys on tour, especially on clay. Seems he can barely move now
I’m really sad to say this but Thiem might be done. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
Glad Jarry is back. He’s one of the better claycourt specialists
I hope Thiem can resurrect like Grandpa Murray!
I thought Thiem looked pretty good actually, forehand keeps improving, serve looked real good, Garin is a great player so I don’t think it was such a bad loss. I believe Thiem slowly comes back, jes getting there:).
Thiem has lost the spark in his eyes. He was having fun before on the court & smiling. He looks sad now. Something is missing
We need to get Gulbis back to practice with Thiem and his first coach Gunther.
Garin at one time was consider a potential to 20 top player!😮
As an Austrian it is kind of hard to watch what Domi is doing right now. I was really positive after last years finish. I still hope he can gain back confidence but maybe it is time to step back and get some confidence on challenger level. Hopefully he can bounce back! I wish!
Finally a clay court tournament!!! After the Australian Open, many of these ATP and WTA events were played on hard courts.
I am so desappointed by Thiem’s loss but he showed something interesting: he can win by the net!!!!!!!
Jarry is playing his best tennis ever. Greetings from Dublin, Chile.
