One thing I will not take for granted in 2023 is still seeing Gasquet and his backhand flowing on court.

I think it’s overdue to give Gasquet a lot of credit for the way he has competed in his long career so far. Always 100% dedication… and yeah what a backhand!

Poor Thiem. It’s crazy how one misstep in a match can completely derail everything you’ve been building towards your whole career. I fear he’ll never fully recover from the effects of that wrist injury

Thiem was electrifying to watch in his prime. If he never gets back to that level again, so be it. I can live, especially knowing Alcaraz is here to stay a while and very entertaining as well. But I’d love nothing more than to see Thiem come back at his best level. Nadal vs Thiem was easily the best rivalry in tennis from 2017-2020 in my opinion, and Thiem’s rivalry with Djokovic wasn’t far behind.

Thiem had similar talent to Tsitsipas/Zverev, but double the work ethic. It’s such a shame that he’s the one who gets hit with the worst injuries when he was the one who worked his ass off to get here. The guy would stubbornly come back with something new in his game every year. Volleys, slice, flatter ground strokes, he just kept improving. Meanwhile Zverev never learned how to hit a second serve…

I just have no idea what’s going on with Thiem at this point. Every shot he hits has the feeling it could be an unforced error. So sad. He seemed like an unstoppable force that would stick around for a generation just two years ago.

It’s been a long time I saw such a high level player such as Thiem take so long to get back to form after injury. I am hoping that he will find his real form during the clay season, and gradually work his way back to other surfaces.

Truly gutted for Thiem. Hope he doesn’t go through what Del Potro went through after he won his US Open title

What’s happening to Thiem? I’m afraid if he can ever get back to the Top 5 once again. But i think it’s more of a mental side for him. He needs to win few good matches against top players and he’s confidence level is right back there. I believe he can make it.

Thiem has glimpses of hope in each of his matches, but loses consistency and confidence by the middle/end. Seems like he needs to figure out how to generate more power and consistency in his forehand after having to change his technique due to the wrist injury. I’m optimistic he’ll make a decent comeback by mid next year.

0:13 This backhand slice is beautiful. I wonder if Thiem will make a comeback if he hits a lot of slices like this instead of hitting hard on his backhand.

Incredible effort by Kokkinakis, never seen 2 players smash (or nearly smash on Bergs part) their rackets at the same time at the end of a match lmao

It would have been amazing to see prime form Thiem take on Alcaraz
I really hope he comes back to his former self 🙏

Huge win by Kokk. Bergs gave it everything, displaying sensational movement, especially when stretched out wide on his forehand. Hoping Bergs keeps at it, he’ll reach top 100 by years end no doubt👏.

What a pleasure it’s been to watch Gasquet’s backhand for 20 years. Massive fan ever since his debut masters1000 in Monte Carlo way back in 2002. So happy he’s been able to enjoy such a long and consistent career. Few players read the game and play the correct shot as well as Gasquet.

The Miami crowd was rooting for Thiem, we all are, if it’s a confidence issue he should work on it because most fans are wishing him the absolute best, we know he’s a talented player but i hope his injury isn’t more than he can actually handle.
