The stan v giron game was so close and intense that they both faced no break points towards each other

Shows you how tough it is on the tour, when two world class players like Wawrinka and Thiem are struggling to win matches.

From what I can see the play by mannarino is that string tension is matter with 28 tension and produce angle cross court – short or even long ball easily and many people don’t realize by think the basic tension is by 50 and for a long run they gonna hurt their elbow

I will say Thiem showed more pop in his game but can he follow up on this. That remains to be seen

What is going on with the R1 matches in the post-Slam season? The guys are so hungry for points that the R1’s have become a gladiatorial bloodbath of three setters & tiebreaks. Itchyberry’s three setter had two tiebreaks before a more routine 3rd set 6-7 7-6 6-3. Serving well, coming to the net, & covering the court becomes so key in these moments. Theme won his 1st set comfortably 6-3, but had to really work to pull through against Varillas who fought back hard in the 2nd set. So many key challenges that turned the match in each player’s favor. So many break points saved. That 7-6 (10-8) tiebreaker was ridiculous. I’ve got to watch a replay of the full match as I was still coming off the heels of the Minotaur R1 Beijing battle.

I feel so badly for Thiem. That freak wrist injury has set him back for so many years. He was making huge strides in the grand slams prior to the injury. I hope it doesn’t go in the direction of another phenomenal player’s career cut shorty by injury, Del Potro.

What a game by Thiem. Great shot placement and ability to change from top spin to flat shots when needed. Had a few great shots were he build up the point as well.

Happy to see Thiem winning, I think too much slicing for me, but hopefully we get those bullet backhands more consistently

Thiem and Wawrinka def have the best one-handed backhands ever. Federer’s was good, but it let him down a bit more.
