The 2021 US Open main draw runs from August 30 – September 12 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 141st time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Dominic Thiem is the men’s singles defending champion but has withdrawn following an injury. Naomi Osaka is the women’s singles defending champion and will be aiming to claim the title for the third time in four years. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic looks to complete the calendar Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this year. Should the Serbian lift the title here for the fifth time, he will also overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the first-ever man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. With full capacity crowds back again, it’s time for the greatest return!

Probably Novak’s best opportunity to get all of 4 Grand slams this season, but had been put to the end by Medvedev. But in style, straight sets!

Finally, Daniil surpassed his limits in terms of his mental strength. And when you come up against the big three, i think that’s one of the main part of your game that you really need to step up and tonight he did. A well deserved win! A first to many grand slams I’m sure! 🎉

Daniil mentality and performance overall has been amazing. He had a little black out after he missed the first championship point (crowd was awful honestly) but then bounced back on his next serve game and won his maiden grand slam title.
Congrats Daniil Medvedev on this special victory. A very deserved one!

Saw this match live! The crowd was so disrespectful and it they really make us New Yorkers look bad. Glad Medvedev held his nerve to get the win.

Medvedev is the most intelligent tennis player out there. And the perfect antidote to Djokovic.

Tsitsipas (French Open) and Zverev had their chances, but they got too flashy and tried too hard to force the points. Daniil waited patiently for the opening, each and every point, knowing fully well that Djokovic is on safe mode, nervous, and not willing to go super aggressive. But at the same time served super aggressively, even on second serves.

Brilliant ploy and a thoroughly deserving winner.

Novak: Danil, this is my calendar Slam…
Medvedev: I’m sorry, this is my wedding anniversary on this calendar date.

It was weird to see Novak playing exactly like Roger used to play against him for the last 5-6 years. Tight on serve, trying to finish every point quickly and making lots of unforced errors.

I so wanted Daniel to win. To beat Novak without dropping a set is just pure class. New champion emerging.

Pathetic crowd trying booing Medvedev before and during his serves and cheering whenever he made a mistake. They got what they deserved. Congratulations to Medvedev. Hopefully more to come.

There have been countless matches where we have seen Novak spring back from a 0-2 down, but not in this one. Key was Med not relaxing and not letting it go to his head.

I’m going to refer to him as the Terminator from now on,literally no reaction throughout the match and when he let out a smile while serving for the match the first time,he got broken. Then he blocked out everything, including the noise of the USO crowd and served incredibly quickly to win the match. Love you Daniil! Can’t think of anyone better to take the baton from the big 3 than you 🔥🔥🔥

Sacrificing the first set and then winning is a tactical genius. Now he tried to take it one step further… Sacrificing the first three sets and then winning… Didn’t happen unfortunately.
