Love the respect players have and show for each other after the match no matter who wins and who loses.

Rune really upped his game in the 2nd and 3rd, there wasn’t much Shelton could do. Great match though.

For someone who has such a nice serve when it goes well, it’s insane to me how many games shapovalov loses on his serve

Rune was always going to be very tough to beat by Shelton, and Shelton did well to capitalize on the few gifts from Rune and take the first set. Shelton has almost all the shots and court coverage of Alcaraz, plus the bonus of a spectacular almost unreturnable lefty-serve. Yet, beyond his very solid service games, his return games are almost always overpassive or error-strewn, so he ends up playing far more tie-breaks than he needs. I wonder if having a coach who can travel with him to support him, and that has experience beyond US varsity success, will be necessary to unleash his full potential. Every single ATP point he takes from here to June would make him go up in the rankings and get him easier draws, as he has no points to defend, but since the AO he has not collected any, so he’s stuck in a bit of a vicious circle of hard draws and no progress.

Just hurts watching Ruud play like this, he’s been horrible since the US Open final (minus the World Tour Finals week), has hardly played even one good set of tennis since. Hope he finds form again soon

A lot of people have a lot of bad takes about Ruud. Sure, he’s had a rough string of weeks post US Open, but he still notched wins against Rublev, Fritz, and Felix at the world tour finals. He is a swift mover, good off of both wings, and doesn’t tend to ‘overplay’ the moment. He’s definitely in a slump, but he’s also off of a post AO break. Being at the top isn’t necessarily about playing your best every time you step on court, it’s about finding a way to win even when your game is off. He did that today and he will likely build some confidence off of it. Let’s stop overhyping hometown favorites after they have a singular deep run, and let’s stop writing off player’s like Ruud who have put together three successful seasons in a row and simply have a slow start to the year.

Shame on tennis tv for not including Lopez’s highlights here, will tennis tv ever get another chance to show highlights of a Feli win? Should have put that match on here.

was a impressive macth for Shelton, but he need to REALLY fix his return, especially on rigth side, fixing that he will be able to compete with other play of that top 20/10

Laughing at the commentator’s comment after the Ruud match. I’m not sure “deeply unattractive” is a nicer description than “ugly” 😀

Bravo, Tiafoe! What a wonderful game for him. I love how he always brings both skill and lightheartedness to the court.

Shelton hit a 145 MPH serve on Set Point. DAMNN 💪🏼. Might be the newest big server on tour, reminds me of a left handed Roddick serve

It is interesting the priority players put on making highlight reels ahead of good decision making. Shelton had plenty of time to avoid hitting a tweener, which would have been by far the better option.
