I like Purcell’s style of play. He has a well-trained body, relaxed strokes, and aggressive net play. I enjoy watching him.
Purcell has a bright future ahead of him
Purcell showing that a very “different” playstyle can really work against the current high level. You can beat big hitters by jumping at the net, and winning exchanges with flat slices on both backhand and forehand
Alcaraz shows his mental strenght by winning almost all key points.
What a wonderful match to watch, such contrasting games to watch Purcell was joyful and to watch Alcaraz figure it out was interesting.
He’s not playing his best, but his adaptability and mental strength have improved tremendously. I’m sure he’ll be back to top form by the US Open.
Vamos Carlitos! Great effort and strategy by Purcell, but Alcaraz has the mentality to tough out matches like this one. Hope to see him meet Djokovic in the final.

That forehand of Purcell is something else, at times he was completely blowing Alcaraz off court, not many can do that in a controlled fashion. Amazing player. 70 in the world? Not for long.

Purcell tried his hand at SABR quite successfully on multiple occasions but Alcaraz’s ability to adapt quickly allowed him to reach the finish line ahead of his opponent! 👍

Wow Purcell has really impressed me this tournament and last! Out of nowhere really, he’s always been a top doubles pro but didn’t think he could translate it to singles so effectively, as an Aussie I’m always keeping an eye of these guys but really massive uplift in form, his serve has always been top notch but now the forehand has gained some nice power the backhand has gotten more consistent and his volleys are that of when he plays doubles, mix in the unique sort of style in some instances and it makes for a tricky battle, I mean pushing Alcaraz to 3 and almost winning is a big feat!
